Super Powers ( Part 2)

If you've been reading my blogs, you'll notice that mindset and language play a huge part in the success of my AS journey. Here's another example of how language can influence your mind and body.

I read some threads and posts in the AS realm. A common theme is anxiety surround biologics- either infusion or self administered.  I , like many people started with an auto injector  biologic.  When I saw the retail price of of this medication I figured it must be liquid gold.  Simultaneously to getting my first auto injector pens I was reading about being a Warrior.  And like many of us, when we first get diagnosed we can be in some pretty rough physical shape. I depended on my husband for many things like going to the grocery store, emptying the dishwasher and carrying a basket of laundry. 

Put liquid gold, being called and AS Warrior and having a Super Hero Husband by my side,  I end up calling my infusions my SUPER JUICE!

Instead of dreading a needle in my arm or thigh, thinking about the potential side effects,  worrying if it will work or not work I flipped it.  My SUPER JUICE has magical powers to help my body feel amazing and potentially put my disease into remission.

As I mentioned in a previous post- there was one biologic that was taking what seemed like forever to give me relief.  My rheumatologist literally said, "Gail, I know this will work. Now you have to believe it too"

When I changed my thinking about that particular medication, it DID start to work!

Some people get mentally stuck on the potential side effects.  I choose to put the emphasis on the Super Juice Magical Powers that the medication offers my body.

Summer 2022: My daughter who is also and AS warrior and I set out to conquer the Manitou Incline.  The  Manitou Springs Incline , also known as the  Manitou Incline  or simply the  Incline , is a popular  hiking   trail  rising above  Manitou Springs, Colorado . . In person or virtual doc appointment? Managing YOUR care

 As an ASer we have many friends, I mean doctors.  Some of them you NEED to see in person.  Others review blood tests or images and never actually need to touch your body. My insurance is amazing. It truly offers me great benefits.  However, when I see a specialist I a pay $50 per visit.  I've learned to manage my doctors as much as they manage my care. I see a nephrologist due to reoccurring kidney stones.  Nephrologists, for me at this point, ONLY review blood work and a 24 hour urine test.  My appointment is spent with the doc looking at a computer screen.  I recently met an AMAZING new nephrologist who agreed that she can review my blood work and 24 hour urine test through the portal! Unless things go wonky, she is good with that! No need for a $50 copay. We of course agreed that if things change we may need to see each other in person. Not If But How- Cute shoes that don't require bending over!

 My friends and family have been by my side for each of my 7 lumbar surgeries.  They know the drill.  After surgery I am on a BLT restriction. No, not the sandwich.  No Bending, Lifting or twisting for about 3 months. I have an amazing friend who is also shoe obsessed.  At last count, she owned 110 pairs of shoes. In her oh so supportive way she teased that she was going to buy me little old lady velcro shoes for after my surgery.  Well, this turned in to quite the shoe throw down challenge.  I was now determined to find CUTE shoes that I could manage easily without bending over. I found my new favorite shoes that just slip on AND are cute.  I know there are many brands now carrying the hands free slip on style.  I found #kizik.  I absolutely LOVE them.  They are cute, comfortable and you truly just slip your feet into them.
